To accommodate direct-drive in combination with mono-blade mounting, a same specialized bottom bracket axle is mounted in the hollow main shaft and the hub is attached directly to the mono-blade via the threaded mounting holes in the stationary right side of the hub. The hub therefore rotates freely relative to the stationary side. The hub is oriented so that the gear shift slider faces toward the crown of the fork or stays to facilitate the connection of a shifter cable. The mono-blade completely encloses the shifter cable and attachment to provide maintenance free weather protection. The mono-blade mounting automatically takes care of the hub torque reaction.

In this configuration, the hub can be used in a direct-drive recumbent bike with a mono-blade front fork, as illustrated below:
